Just outside the building I work in is a tree with seeds that King Parrots obviously consider gourmet food.
The male parrot is flashy with his red head and belly.

This is either a female or a juvenile. Both images are cropped from larger ones, hence being a little grainy.
If I’m not mistaken, it’s a Chinese Pistachio which are pretty commonly planted around here.

There’s a substantial colony of King Parrots in Tenterfield. They are without question the most beautiful birds. Sadly, they a) enjoy the nectar in my almond blossom, and b) nibble a small amount of each nut – before they are ripe enough for me to pick!

The Colors of the parrots remind me of those I use in my paintings .
I hope these colorful animals will never become extinct .
